My hubby RB loves fish. The rest of us do not share his enthusiasm. As a young girl my Mom would serve us fish sticks and I recall them as being sort of soggy and disgusting. So hubby doesn't have fish all that often, usually only in the summer when he can cook it on the grill. I was offered the opportunity to try Mrs Paul's Frozen Seafood products, which I accepted wondering how we'd all feel.
From the website – Mrs. Paul's makes family dinner easier, with a full variety of great-tasting, easy to prepare seafood that will please kids and adults alike. Whether you want our famous, kid-pleasing fish sticks, tender and crunchy fish fillets, or the deviled crab that started it all, Mrs. Paul's time-honored recipes are sure to include your family's favorites. Our famous fish sticks now include a new X-Large variety perfect for heartier appetites. Our flaky white fillets feature unique breading and batter recipes, gently seasoned to perfection. Mrs. Paul's select cuts include lightly-breaded, restaurant quality fillets of flounder, cod, haddock, and tilapia. We also offer your favorite seafood specialties, including shrimp, scallops, clams and calamari. And Mrs. Paul's is the only national seafood brand that packs every item in a Freshness Pouch. This unique packaging helps prevent freezer burn and seal in that great taste your family loves.
Mrs. Paul's: Fresh Taste, Made Easy.
I had a coupon allowing me to choose from a number of Mrs Pauls products. I chose the Mrs Paul's Crunchy Fish Fillets. I chose it because there was enough in the box to feed all of us and because it said it had a "new, crunchier taste". The primary ingredient is Alaskan Pollock.
The fish fillets come in a freshness pouch, which is a sealed plastic bag. The bag is meant to keep the fish fillets fresh and to prevent tampering. To cook the fillets you preheat the oven to 425 F and then bake on the middle rack for 20-23 minutes, turning halfway. That's simple enough. I followed the instructions. We paired the fillets with white rice and green beans. The fish fillets came out looking golden and much crunchier than I remembered frozen fish being. The breading was crunchy and when we ate the fish the first thing I thought was that I was surprised the breading wasn't soggy. The fish fillets were tender. We all agreed that they were better than we expected. RB was excited because he liked them enough that I told him I buy them and keep them in the freezer for him, so he'll have some more fish now. He really wants to try some of the other varieties too.
One 19 ounce box contains 5 servings of 2 fillets each. Each serving is 290 calories and has 14 grams total fat, 40 mg cholesterol, 550 mg sodium, 27 grams carbohydrates and 9 grams of protein. The fillets are breaded with wheat so they are not gluten free. One box of 10 fillets was selling for $4.99 at ShopRite the week I bought it.
